Studies show that your average drug store waxmelts actually release chemicals that are as harmful as second hand smoke. Chemicals linked too respiratory trouble, allergies, asthma and worse. 

Most waxmelts are made of paraffin wax (a petroleum waste product that is chemically bleached), which creates highly toxic benzene and toluene (both are known carcinogens) when burned.
